Sydney Vital Seed Funding – Closed

Sydney Vital is pleased to invite applications for its Seed Funding Awards to the value of $25,000 each. The Sydney Vital Seed Funding Scheme intends to seed new ideas, with the goal of generating data to a point where external funding may be sought. The ideas to be tested should be (i) new in concept and (ii) distinct from currently or previously funded research. Projects should focus on Translational Cancer Research and closely align with one or more of Sydney Vital’s Flagship Programs and/or Translational Cancer Research Centres (TCE) which are;


Translational Theranostics


Pancreatic Cancer
Thyroid Cancer
Breast Cancer Implementation
Neuroendocrine Tumours
Sydney 1000 CRC
Adrenocortical Cancer

Sydney Vital Travel Awards 2018 – Closed

Sydney Vital invites applications for Travel Awards to the value of $1,500 for domestic travel and $3,000 for international travel. Our aim is to encourage outstanding PhD students, ECRs, researchers and clinicians from within the Sydney Vital network and institutions to present their scientific research progress at national or international conferences.

Submission Guidelines

Applications must be combined in a single PDF file and must be submitted as attachment in an email to [email protected]. Please use the following naming convention:

Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) PhD Research Program (Liver)

The HPB Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital is offering a full-time position in the field of liver surgery/liver cancer for enrolment in the Doctor of Philosophy (Medicine) program at the University of Sydney commencing in 2018.

Research program opportunities related to Liver (but are not limited to):

  • Investigating tumour-stroma interactions in colorectal liver metastases
  • Investigating tumour-stroma interactions in HCC and/or cholangiocarcinoma
  • Prognostic biomarkers in liver malignancies
  • Pre-clinical modelling of liver malignancies
  • Quality of life after resection of malignant liver tumours
  • Impact of biological agents on outcome following resection of colorectal liver metastases

Sydney Vital Neuro-Oncology Postgraduate Scholarship – CLOSED

Sydney Vital is proud to offer a unique scholarship opportunity for an outstanding PhD scholar to conduct research in the area of neuro-oncology. The successful applicant will conduct their research as part of the Sydney Vital Neuro-Oncology Centre of Excellence which is based at the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Open to:

1. The scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled in full-time studies in a PhD at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of neuro-oncology.

2. Applicants must hold an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class upper) or a recognised medical degree in a related discipline, or equivalent.

3. Applicants must have research experience in one of the following areas:
– Genomics
– Bioinformatics
– Immunology
– Inflammation
– Imaging
– Histology

4. Applicants must provide names and contact details of at least two academic referees.

5. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian Permanent residents, New Zealand citizens or international applicants eligible for a visa.

Value & Duration: The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance of $35,000 per annum from the date the successful applicant commences the scholarship until the 31 July 2019, subject to satisfactory academic performance. An extension may be offered by the University should funds become available. The maximum duration of the scholarship (including any extension) will not exceed three years.
